Hope you are having a lovely few days of work and enjoying all the festivities, London is amazing at the moment, there is such a good atmosphere and it's nice to see the UK so patriotic. It doesn't feel like it's very often we all get together and just enjoy being 'British'!
However, rather than stay in London for the Weekend, me and the other half went on a little break to Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.
We travelled up on Saturday morning which was a lovely drive, luckily we just missed all the celebrations and parades and managed to drive through Central London fairly quickly! We arrived in Cheltenham at about 3pm (after a few pit stops and various service stations!) and checked into our Hotel for the night 'Hotel du Vin'. Hotel du Vin is a stone throw from the town centre but on a very quiet, idyllic little street so the hustle and bustle of the busy town are a distant murmur.
The hotel itself is gorgeous, the service is fantastic and we absolutely loved our room. Each room is named after famous wines and champagnes, we stayed in 'Madfish' which is on the first floor of the hotel. The room was amazing, with a huge luxurious bathtub in the bedroom as well as a gorgeous shower in the separate bathroom.
As we started to unpack our things and have a little browse around the room, there was a knock at the door which was a waitress with a glass of champagne for us both, compliments of the Hotel Manager. What a lovely gesture!?
After I drank both glasses (the boy doesn't drink) we slipped into our swimming gear and headed down to the Spa. I was treated to a Zen Spa Pedicure and an Express Facial, the Boy had a pedicure too (Shhh!) We both also spent some time in the steam room so went back to the hotel feeling fresh and revived. The Spa was small but perfectly formed, there was soothing music playing in all rooms, and the therapists were all friendly but very professional.
Before we knew it, it was time to start getting ready for our dinner reservation at 9.15pm in the Hotel's Bistro. In the Bistro, I picked my starter and main from the specials board which is presented on a blackboard at the table - a really lovely, personal touch I thought with all dishes chosen by the Bistro chefs on the day - I chose the Leak and Potato soup and the Sausage and Mash (which was a lot more glamorous than it sounds!) The food was fresh, the meat was quality and cooked to absolute perfection.
I have to say, this weekend made me realise that I am a bit of a lightweight! After 3 glasses of champagne and a hearty, gorgeous meal, I was ready for bed! All in all, it was a really really lovely day and I cant wait to go back to try some more Hotel du Vin's.
Here are a few pictures from our lovely jubilee weekend break.
Lots of love
